Caritas Salford will be running a series of online sessions explaining why and how parishioners can become Caritas Parish Representatives. The sessions will share the great work done by current reps and also give more information on how that can be emulated in other parishes. If your parish doesn't have a Caritas Parish Rep, please consider the information below for inclusion in your newsletters or website: Do you want to help put love into action? Would you like to learn more about how you can help your community, or share ideas and news with other parishes? By becoming a Parish Rep you can become the point of contact between Caritas Salford and your parish - the role is flexible and can fit around the needs of your parish. To find about more about Caritas Salford and its Parish Rep scheme, contact Matt Yates for details of the next online information session: m.yates@caritassalford.org.uk

St Mary’s Primary School: Volunteer Appeal

One of the greatest pleasures as a teacher is being able to take the children out of school on enriching and exciting trips. When taking children out of school, a risk assessment must be carried out and in order to keep our children safe.  This requires extra adults.  In the past we were able to ask parents to accompany their children on a school trip, but updated Health and Safety Guidance recommends against this.  Therefore, we are asking for any parent, grandparent or member of our parish to support us in our endeavours with all classes. If you have any spare time and are willing to share your contact details with school, we can build up a list of volunteers who can be telephoned and asked about their availability. As always, thank you for your continued support. Mrs Shaw Deputy Headteacher

Contactless Card Donations

Last weekend we introduced a new way of donating to the Parish via a contactless card device.  After last Sunday's trial, this will be a permanent fixture at the back of church and will be available everyday to make donations.  If you would like any assistance or more information, please speak with Fr Richard or a member of the Parish Finance Team.

  Salford Diocesan Synod 2023-25

You may remember last Year, the Universal Church in Rome issued a call to hear the voices of Catholics all over the world as part of the 'Synod on Synodality'.  Following on from that, our own Diocesan Bishop John has decided to convoke and launch a local Diocesan Synod in Salford. At the recent Chrism Mass, Bishop John therefore formally launched the 38th Diocesan Synod by formal Decree.  This is a process that will unfold gradually over time and it is important to know what a Diocesan Synod is and what it is not.  If you would like to know more about the Synod and how you can get involved, please speak to Fr Richard.  In particular he is looking for two lay volunteers to join him in representing St Mary's Parish on the Diocesan Synod.  Please consider whether you might be willing to assist him in this way.

Hearing the Cry: Responding with Hope

This Lent, the Diocese is launching its updated environment strategy, “Hearing the Cry: Responding in Hope” – a positive new document setting out our diocesan response to our ecological crisis.  The document begins with a powerful call from Bishop John, reminding us that caring for creation is an integral part of our Catholic faith – a faith grounded in hope. Despite the severity of the challenges we face, it is precisely this sense of hope that provides the building blocks for our strategy, highlighting the positive impact we can make within our diocese and the wider Christian community for the good of our common home. You can read the full document by clicking here.

Collection Envelopes

The collection envelopes for the new tax year (2023-24) start from Easter Sunday (9th April). In order to reduce costs, we have decided once again to only issue envelopes to those who have continued to use them during the last financial year. For those who have continued to use them, the boxes of new envelopes, can be collected from the back of church from this weekend.

Parish Finance: Contactless Card Donations

Next weekend we are introducing a new way of donating to the Parish via a contactless card device.  Many other parishes across the Diocese are also using this simple device that allows you to donate any amount you choose without the need for cash (donations can also be Gift-Aided).  It will be at the back of church after Easter Sunday Mass and members of the Parish Finance Team will be on hand to assist and answer questions.

Parish YCW Group

"The YCW are proud to announce that we are organising a community walk on Easter Monday (10th April) followed by refreshments in the Rosary Room. Everybody is welcome, so if you are interested, please see a member of our group at the back of church on Sunday to sign up and buy a ticket. A recommended  donation of £1 per person or £2.50 for a family ticket would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there!"

Film Club

The film “ Miss Potter” will be shown on Thursday 6th April, it’s the story of Beatrix Potter, as usual we open the doors at 1 30pm for tea/coffee and cake and the film starts at 2pm , the charge is just £3.

Urban Outreach

The next Urban Outreach collection is on Monday 3rd April at St Elizabeth's, Cedar Avenue from 11.00-13.00.  Donations may also be out in the Grub Tub in the church porch.  There is a list of items needed near the tub.  If every household put in one item the tub would be filled.

Guide Dogs for the Blind

Following last year's Christmas lunch Club Raffle, we were able to send a donation of £200 to Guide Dogs.  The charity has written to thank us for this donation: "We're so grateful...and we can't thank you enough for the contribution you have made."

If you would like to do this at home and you have access to the internet, simply visit the St Mary’s Parish website (www.stmaryshorwich.com) and click on the ‘Donate’ icon on the homepage. This will give you instructions on how to set up a Standing Order or make a one-off donation to the Parish.

Donations made to Charities by Cheque

You can make a donation to a particular charity at any time by putting it in the Parish Collection (e.g. CAFOD, Caritas Diocese of Salford etc.).  If you do this by cheque, please make it payable to: ‘St Mary’s RC Horwich’ and write the name of the charity you wish to support on the back.  Thank you.
